Boys basketball: Gainesville snaps losing streak, whips Buford

BUFORD - Gainesville tuned up for its showdown with arch-rival East Hall next week with an impressive 79-60 win over Buford Saturday afternoon on the road.

The Elephants (3-6) will travel to East Hall on Tuesday in a key Region 7B-AAA matchup.

A.J. Johnson had a huge game to lead Gainesville with 25 points and seven rebounds.

The Elephants opened the game strong opening up a 10-point lead in the first half. Gainesville then used its quickness on defense to hold the Wolves (3-5) to just seven points in the fourth quarter to pull away for the win.

Quan Holcombe had 14 points for Gainesville. Ty Redmon and Chris West each had 11 points for the Elephants.

T.J. Shipes led Buford with 22 points. Payton Wehunt added 13 for the Wolves.
