White Co. has two finalists for county manager's job

By Dean Dyer, WRWH
CLEVELAND - Two south Georgia men have been selected as the finalists for the position of White County Manager.

The Board of Commissioners at its called meeting Tuesday made the announcement that Randall Shane Haynes and Michael J. Melton are the two finalists for the job. The commissioners said they received 30 applicants for the position.

Haynes, of Statesboro, served as Statesboro City Manager from 2008 until 2010. Melton, of Richmond Hill, had served until this January as city manager for Richmond Hill. He had served in that capacity since 1996.

This past November Carol Jackson announced that she was stepping down as county manager to accept a position with the Department of Justice. At that time, the commissioners called in retired and long-time county clerk Jean Welborn to serve as interim manager while they searched for a replacement for Jackson.

The White County Board of Commissioners will make its final decision to fill the position from the two finalist at a called meeting to be announced later, following at least 14 days from the date of a notice appearing in White County's legal organ.
