Boys & Girls Clubs to host chess tournament

GAINESVILLE - The Boys & Girls Clubs of Hall County and Championship Chess will be hosting a chess tournament from 1:00 – 4:00 pm on Saturday, November 7, at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Hall County’s Joseph F. Walters Club. The tournament is open to all youth grades 12 and below. The cost is $3 for BGCHC members, $5 for Championship Chess students, and $10 for all other individuals. All players are guaranteed three games, with no elimination. Trophies will be given to players based on scores and grade. 
 
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Hall County has been working with Championship Chess to facilitate a chess program for Club members. Providing unique learning experiences such as this is instrumental in placing disadvantaged youth on the path to a great future. 
 
To register online for this event, visit at www.championshipchess.net and click "K-12 Tournaments" to register and pay. For "Tournament Name" enter: Hall #1. If paying with cash or check, register the chess player by sending an email to [email protected] . The subject of the email should read: Hall Tournament Registration. In the body of the email provide the tournament player’s name, school, grade, your phone number. Please bring payment to the tournament.

The Clubs serve over 5,359 young people annually and over 640 members, ages 6 to 18 every day. 87% of our youth come from economically disadvantaged circumstance.  The Clubs membership is 55% male and 45% female, 43% African-American, 39% Hispanic,11% Caucasian and 7% Multi-Racial.
 
The work of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Hall County is supported by over 80 full- and part-time staff, plus a volunteer force of over 300 community leaders and private citizens.
 
The fee for membership is $40 per year per child and the after-school program is free.  The eight week Summer Program is $120 per child. No child is turned away due to inability to pay.
