The Georgia Cooperative Council recently announced that Mr. Frank Coker is the recipient of their Georgia Cooperative Council Distinguished Cooperator Award for 2016.

Mr. Coker is a lifelong resident of the Birmingham community in Cherokee County, and was a successful farmer and land developer for many years.  He served on the Sawnee EMC Board of Directors for 45 years, until his retirement in September 2015.  Mr. Coker was instrumental in leading the Cooperative through some of the most challenging and successful periods of its history.  Not only was Mr. Coker well known in his community for both farming and land development, but he has also been heavily involved in youth athletics, banking, and serving as a church deacon for over 40 years.

Michael Goodroe, Sawnee EMC’s President and CEO, will present the award to Mr. Coker during the Georgia Cooperative Council’s Annual Meeting to be held at the Georgia Farm Bureau Federation headquarters in Macon, Georgia on March 7, 2016.  “Sawnee EMC is honored that Mr. Coker has been chosen to receive this prestigious award.  He has dedicated over four (4) decades of service to our Cooperative.” said Michael Goodroe.

The primary objective of the Georgia Cooperative Council is to promote, foster, and encourage all types of cooperative associations throughout the State of Georgia.  The Council has members from a variety of companies, including the Farm Credit System, farm supply co-ops, rural telephone cooperatives, state and federal officials and electric cooperatives.  The Council awards the Distinguished Cooperator Award to those individuals who have had a history of supporting Georgia cooperatives, thereby contributing to their continued success.
