A now-former pitcher for the Gainesville High School baseball team was arrested last week on charges stemming from a minor accident in northern Hall County.
Jonathan Gettys, an 18-year-old senior at GHS, faces charges of DUI and driving on the wrong side of the roadway, according to Cpl. Austin Allen with the Georgia State Patrol.
Allen said the incident started on April 8, just before 9 p.m.
"Around 8:44...[Gettys] had just turned right onto Ga. 283, which is Mt. Vernon Road, from Oak Harbor Drive and was on the wrong side of the roadway."
Gettys' vehicle, which Allen described as a 2007 Dodge Durango, then struck the front end of an oncoming 2011 Mitsubishi Lancer operated by Ms. Janet Jarrard. Neither individual was seriously injured.
Allen said authorities conducted a brief investigation of the scene, eventually placing Gettys under arrest.
"Through the investigation of the crash it was determined that the driver of vehicle one, Mr. Jonathen Gettys, was under the influence," Allen explained.
Officials with Gainesville High School have since confirmed that Gettys, who signed a scholarship with LSU earlier this year, "is no longer part of the team," although they declined to issue further comment on the exact reason for the decision.
