Gainesville High senior receives National Merit commendation

Gainesville High School senior John "Gus" Kaufman has been selected as a Commended Student in the 2018 National Merit Scholarship Program.   A Letter of Commendation from GHS and the National Merit Scholarship Corporation was presented to him, highlighting this exemplary achievement.

Approximately 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise.  They are among the top five percent of more than 1.6 million students who entered the 2018 competition by taking the preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Test.  These students represent an elite group who demonstrates academic excellence in high school and college, emerging as strong future leaders of our nation, according to a news release from the Gainesville City School System.

Gus is the son of Haynes Kaufman of Gainesville and grandson of Angela Allen Stanley of Gainesville.
