Irma: Neighborhood food distribution

By AccessWDUN staff

A food distribution partnership involving the Georgia Mountain Food Bank, the Sunshine Seniors at St. John Baptist Church and New Holland Elementary School Friday was designed, in part, to help those still suffering from power outages.

It was part of the food bank's newly launched Neighborhood Fresh Grocery Program.

What was originally scheduled as a distribution to serve the families and children at the school was expanded into a neighborhood-wide distribution (with school being out) and with the need for fresh produce and food on the rise because of lingering power outages throughout the area in the wake of Hurricane Irma.

It was held in the parking lot at the church.
