A blood drive is scheduled on Thursday to honor a three year old Gainesville boy who is battling cancer.
The drive will start at 9 a.m. and go until 6 p.m. at Gainesville Physical Therapy at 1296 Sims Street. It is sponsored by LifeSouth. Another mobile blood drive unit will be located at the Jacobs Media studios at 1102 Thompson Bridge Road during the same hours.
Wesley Gailey is tackling Stage 4 Burkitt's Leukemia, and is receiving treatment at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. He was diagnosed earlier this year. Gailey is part of the Jacobs Media family, the grandson of President and CEO Jay Jacobs and Board Member Anna Jacobs.
Cancer patients frequently need multiple transfusion of red blood cells and platelets during treatment
All donations will benefit Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. Donors will be entered to win a LifeSouth gift basket, in addition to receiving a free t-shirt, cholesterol screening and a COVID-19 antibody test.
All donors need to be at least 17 years old, or 16 with parental permission, weigh at least 110 pounds, be in good health, and have a photo ID.
