UNG fall commencement set for Dec. 5-6, will implement social distancing

By Regan Spinks, AccessWDUN staff

Nearly 800 students at the University of North Georgia are set to graduate this fall, and they will do so in a socially distanced format on Saturday, Dec. 5 and Sunday, Dec. 6.

The fall graduation experience will be held in the same format as the university’s September commencement, which was designed to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Students will sign up for a 15-minute time slot during which they will walk across the stage in the Convocation Center on UNG’s Dahlonega Campus. Graduates may be accompanied by up to four guests and all attendees will be required to wear a face covering. The ceremonies will be live-streamed for those who cannot attend in person.

"This is different from the average commencement ceremony. Guests are allowed on the event floor with their graduates," Executive Director of University Events Anna Brown said in a statement Monday. "It is the most unique and intimate opportunity you will ever take part in for any kind of graduation. It is what our graduates deserve in this special time."

All graduates are required to register for a time slot by Tuesday, Nov. 17. Times will be offered as follows:

Saturday, Dec. 5

  • 9-9:45 a.m.: College of Education
  • 10-11:45 a.m.: College of Health Sciences & Professions
  • 1:30-4:15 p.m.: Mike Cottrell College of Business
  • 6-7 p.m.: Mike Cottrell College of Business
  • 7:15-8:30 p.m.: College of Science & Mathematics and Institute of Environmental and Spatial Analysis
