Cornelia City Commissioner Wes Dodd died Wednesday following a short battle with cancer.
Dodd, who was 56, represented Ward 1 on the commission.
"Wes proved himself to be highly logical and rational, forward-thinking, and selfless as he served the citizens of Cornelia since November 2006," said a statement issued by the city. "He was an integral part of Cornelia's success over the years. Under his guidance and financial savvy, the city has been able to replace millions of dollars of infrastructure. Wes was a voice of reason for the city, especially regarding our finances and infrastructure."
Funeral services for Dodd are pending.
