AAA reactivates 'Tow to Go' program for July 4th weekend

Ahead of the Independence Day weekend, AAA Georgia is reactivating a program designed to keep drunk and impaired drivers off the road.

The program allows you to call a hotline number to make an appointment to have your vehicle towed anywhere within a ten-mile radius.

"The weekend will be filled with fireworks and other festivities, but please don't bring the party on the road with you," Montrae Waiters, AAA spokeswoman, said in a press release. "The roads will already be extremely crowded this weekend, and adding alcohol just raises the risk of a deadly crash."

Drunk drivers play a role in roughly one-third of all traffic crash fatalities in the U.S.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 28 people in the U.S die in drunk-driving-related crashes each day.

"As you lock-in, your party plans, be sure to also set up a safe ride," Waiters said. "If those plans fall through, call Tow to Go, and AAA can give you a lift."
