Baseball: Buford looks to set up 8-7A title game; NHall, Bluff tune-up for 8-4A play-in series' on Thursday

By Jeff Hart Sports Reporter

Cherokee Bluff and North Hall will close their regular seasons on Thursday as they prepare for the upcoming Region 8-4A play-in series next week.

Both teams are already locked into the subregion finishes but do not want to derail late-season momentum.

Buford can set up a one-game showdown with Dacula next week for the Region 8-7A title with a win and a series sweep of Collins Hill (14-13, 6-6 Region 8-7A). The Wolves (14-12, 9-4 Region 8-7A) have won seven straight in region play to pull into a tie with Dacula (18-8, 9-4 Region 8-7A), and the two teams will play the final game of their three-game series on Monday.

Meanwhile, Region 7-3A is still a dogfight as Lumpkin County (17-4, 10-3 Region 7-3A) can go for the series win over No. 2 Pickens (22-4, 14-2 Region 7-3A) and climb within 1 1/2-games of first place with the tiebreaker advantage with a victory. Wesleyan (14-7, 10-3 Region 7-3A) is currently tied with the Indians for second place, and those two teams will close out the regular season next week with a three-game series.
