DETROIT, Mich. — Less than a week after taking a line drive off his left knee, Reese Olson was back in action for the Detroit Tigers.

The Gainesville native came on in relief for the Tigers in the fifth inning against the Oakland A’s on Tuesday. The former North Hall standout went five innings allowing just one hit and one walk while striking out five. He came out after the ninth in a scoreless tie.

However, the A’s would eventually take a 1-0 win in the 10th scoring a run off the Tigers’ Tyler Horton.

Olson (1-2) lowered his ERA to 4.02 with perhaps his best showing of the season, needing just 70 pitches, throwing 42 strikes.

He has surrendered just 24 hits and 8 walks in 31 1/3 innings while fanning 35. He has given up four home runs, but three came against the powerful Atlanta Braves in a start last month.
