Report: Braves, Liberty Media ready to part ways

By AccessWDUN Staff

ATLANTA — Rumored for months, the Atlanta Braves split from longtime owner Liberty Media is in its final stages, according to frontofficesports.com.

Liberty Media announced back in November that a company-wide reorganization was planned, including the Braves. In the frontofficesports.com article, Greg Maffei, Liberty president and CEO, said the split was aimed at “better highlighting” the value of the Braves and “providing greater investor choice.”

The frontofficesports.com story said the split is tentatively scheduled for July 18 and the Atlanta Braves will become Atlanta Braves Holdings Inc.

The Braves have been one of major league baseball’s best organizations over the past 30-plus years and their move to The Battery in 2017 has widely been considered a model for future major league franchises.

The frontofficesports.com article also mentioned that the move could raise the possibility that the Braves may still be sold after the split. The article also stated that the New York Mets were the last MLB franchise to be sold, garnering a then-record $2.4 billion in 2020.
