ATLANTA - The percentage of Gainesville and Hall County 4th-, 6th- and, 8th-graders exceeding state standards whilein reading, language arts, and math was better last year than the year before.

In Hall County, 4th-graders showed an improvement in math, no change in language arts, and a decline in reading.

Sixth-graders showed no change in reading, a drop in language arts, and improvement in math.

And, among 8th-graders there were improvements in reading and language arts, with no change in math.

In Gainesville, 4th-graders showed improvements in Reading but declines in the other two categories.

Among 6th-graders, reading and math were up, but, language arts was down.

And, 8th-graders did better in reading and language arts than a year ago, but, not in math.

Hoowever, while the percentage of students exceeding state standards has increased, both systems still lag, overall, when it comes to meeting state standards in those areas.
