A source at Berkmar High School has confirmed that Matt Causey, who left East Hall Tuesday, was enrolled at the Gwinnett County school Wednesday.
Causey, a star basketball player for the Vikings the last two seasons, announced earlier in the week that he planned to leave. He had cited irreconcilable differences as to why he was leaving.

East Hall High Principal Bill Sloan said that Causey's leaving shouldn't affect anything.

"I'm hoping that it won't affect the team at all," Sloan said. "We have a lot of great young players and it's just a matter of them getting some experience. And (coach) Seth (Vining) always does a great job."
Berkmar is the defending Class AAAAA state champion and currently ranked fifth. Berkmar is located in Lawrenceville in Gwinnett County.

Under GHSA bylaws (Rule 1.62, Paragraph A, Sections 1 and 2 on pages 33 and 34):

..."a student shall be immediately eligible at a new school if...they choose a public or private school...and that the parent(s) residing with the student have relinquished the residence in the former service area and have occupied a residence in the new service area."

Sloan said they have no plans to challenge any moves, unless rules are broken.

"We have no plans to just arbitrarily challenge anything," Sloan said. "But I think we would if we find that (the Causeys) are not following GHSA rules about residency. I'm not going to speculate about what might happen."

Vining said his team has already moved on from the incident and working on restoring order.

"I think we got a good start (Tuesday) night with a win over Dawson County," Vining said. "My job is to coach this team and teach them how to play the game. I'm not going to worry about what's now in the past.

"I do think it's an unfortunate situation for Matt and I hope it works out for him."
