GAINESVILLE - A challenge of the residency of Hall County Commissioner Brenda Branch has been rejected by the county board of registrars.

The challenge was filed September 5 by Mike Olsen, who said Branch, who is running for re-election this year, did not live in her commission district.

The decision was unanimous, according to Chief Registrar Anne Phillips, who says the proof was just not there, based on the evidence.

"Both sides presented evidence, however, Mr. Olsen did not have enough evidence to show that (Branch) did not reside at her Flowery Branch address," said Phillips. "Ms. Branch produced her homestead exemption papers which is one of the criteria for establishing residency."

Phillips added "Although Mr. Olsen had two letters from people who live in that area stating that they did not believe (Branch) lived there, Ms. Branch had (sufficient evidence to prove otherwise)."

Phillips said the board's decision can be appealed to superior court.
