ATLANTA - The unemployment rate in Hall County is up slightly - to 3.4%.

State labor department spokesman Sam Hall says the reason for the one-tenth of a percent increase is temporary layoffs in the wholesale and retail trade and in textile and apparel manufacturing.

The jobless rate in Habersham, Barrow, Banks, and White counties is also up a bit; down in Forsyth, Dawson, and Jackson; and, unchanged in Lumpkin County.

Georgia Department of Labor Commission Michael Thurmond said that 12,900 new jobs were added in Georgia during March.

"Beginning in February and continuing into March, we've had good news on two important fronts," Thurmond said. "In each of those months, we've seen job growth and a decline in the number of initial unemployment insurance claims."
