Helen fines water park owner

HELEN - The Helen City Commission says the owner of a water park being built in Helen has violated the state Sedimentation Control Act.

City manager Jerry Elkins said muddy water was being pumped into a pipe system to the Chattahoochee River instead of into a sediment pond.

The commission has voted to fine Merle Long and the fine could total as much as $1,000.

Long is building the water park near the Chattahoochee River.

EPD also found problems at the site, including evidence that muddy runoff could reach the river, but Elkins says they have been corrected.

Long could not be reached for comment.
