GAINESVILLE - A workbook on safe driving tips is one idea being explored by a group looking at teen driving in Hall County.

Butch Miller, a member of the task force, which was created by the county school board, appeared Thursday on the Martha Zoller Show on WDUN NEWS TALK 550.

"We have to demonstrate to these children what driving safely is," Miller said. "Who has the right-of-way at a four-way stop, can we back out into a highway, how do you make a three-point turn, how do you correct when you leave the road?"

Miller said it's a "countywide issue that is going to take countywide participation" if progress is to be made in dealing with it.

He said it's "not exclusively" a school board issue, a parent issue, or a law enforcement issue.

"I don't know that we'll ever solve it," Miller said. "I think we can impact this issue."

Monday night, the task force will present the county school board with a proposal to use a Pennsylvania-based program involving a driving simulator as a pilot at North Hall High School next year.

North Hall was hit hard this past school year with teen driving fatalities. In all during the 2001-2002 school year, five Hall County students and one adult were killed in accidents in the county involving teen drivers.
