Restaurant renews driveway request

GAINESVILLE - One year after a similar request was rejected by the Gainesville City Council, the owners of Western Sizzlin' Restaurant on Dawsonville Highway are trying again to get acess to their establishment from Lakeshore Drive.

Barjean, Incorproated, says it has lost business at Western Sizzlin' since a raised median was installed on Dawsonville Highway about two years ago.

In the face of stifff neighborhood opposition, the city council denied their request for a driveway from Lakeshroe Drive last February.

The planning staff is recommending approval of the latest request and notes that the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) and Gainesville Public Works Department support the application in hopes that access from Lakeshore Drive to the restaurant parking lot will reduce the number of U-turns at two nearby intersections.

The planning board is expected to take the issue up Tuesday.
