GAINESVILLE - A new case of rabies has been confirmed in Hall County.

The latest case was reported in a skunk that was killed September 26 at a house off Union Church Road near Flowery Branch.

Hall County Animal Control says the animal was killed by the owner of a cat who said it was acting aggressively toward his pet. The skunk later tested positive for rabies.
Animal control officers urge that all domestic animals in the vicinity of the incident be properly restrained and ask that anyone noticing domestic animals acting abnormally to contact animal control.
If you notice a wild animal acting in an abnormal fashion, you are asked to contact the Georgia Department of Natural Resources.
It is the third confirmed case of rabies in Hall County this year - all of them in South Hall. The first was in April and involved a fox and occurred on Freeport Drive. The second, in mid-May, was reported on Bolding Road and also involved a fox.
