GAINESVILLE - The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) is getting ready to begin work on a number of bridges in the Gainesville area, including a major project on one of the bridges on Dawsonville Highway.

GDOT spokeswoman Teri Pope says that work, beginning September 16, will involve a reconstruction of the overhead beams on the bridge on the Hall-Forsyth county line - and will take six-to-eight weeks to complete.

Pope says the bridge will be closed weeknights from 9:00 p.m. until 5 a.m. "Local" traffic will be able to access the highway from the east or west, but will not be allowed to cross the bridge. "Through" traffic is advised to use Brown's Bridge Road to get from Hall to Forsyth county.

Work is also planned on a number of bridges on I-85 and I-985 and Duncan Creek Bridge on Georgia 211 near Chestnut Mountain.
