GAINESVILLE - The just-completed four-point-one million dollar Northeast Georgia History Center in Gainesville will open its doors to the public for the first time November 13.

A "Friends Who Welcome the History Center" reception will serve as the "building preview."

The reception will include a "Taste of History" - featuring samples from 25 or more restaurants, caterers, and related businesses in northeast Georgia.

According to Jorene Pilcher and Happy Kirkpatrick, co-chairs for the event, the reception will afford a chance to see the center's interior before the exhibits are moved in.

"Not only will many of Gainesville's top restaurants be on hand, but there will be others from Dahlonega, Helen, Baldwin, and Jasper," adds Gwen Mundy, the history center's president.

Attendance is limited to those contributing a tax-deductible gift of $35 per person to the Center's Exhibit Fund.

After the November 13 reception, the history center will be available for rent to groups of from 20 to 350 until it is transformed into a "true" Northeast Georgia History Center and re-opened in March. That includes a 200-seat amphitheatre.

The history center is just off Butler Parkway and sits between Academy Street and Brenau Avenue.

To become a "Friend Who Welcomes the History Center" and make arrangements to attend the reception, call 770-536-0889.
