ATHENS - Fall colors are expected to be spectacular this year, according to State Climatologist David Stooksbury.

Stooksbury says Georgia has experienced near ideal weather for a colorful fall. A wet
spring and early summer followed by dry late summer and early fall are ideal for nature to paint a beautiful fall landscape, he says, and adds that early cool weather in October will add accent to nature's pallet.

Historically the peak leaf color in the mountains is reached October 15-25. At the lower elevations, such as Gainesville, the peak color is usually between October 20-31

Stooksbury adds with cold fronts from Canada and the associated wind expected to be more
numerous this October, the date of peak color may be a little early because of leaves being blown off trees.
