GAINESVILLE - Members of the Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors were told Thursday that employment at the old Deep South plant has increased 115 percent since a new owner took over in May 2002.

During the board's regular monthly meeting, Deborah Van Dyk, Schreiber Foods' Vice president for Industry and Regulatory Affairs, also discussed work on a 53,000-square-foot expansion which is expected to add even more jobs.

Van Dyk said the distribution center should be online by next spring - the second anniversary of Schreiber's purchase of the White Sulphur Road facility.

Cheese and pimento cheese are made at the Gainesville plant.
