The storms - sometimes accompanied by hail - pounded the Gainesville area for most of the evening, with the strongest of the storms blowing through about 8:00.
The Hall County Sheriff's Department says a couple of trees were blown down by the storms, but there was no property damage.
The National Weather Service was busy issuing severe thunderstorm and flash flood warnings for much of the evening across a wide area of north Georgia.
Two thunderstorm warnings were issued for Hall County Sunday - the first about 3:30 in the afternoon for a storm in the Clermont area and the second about five hours later.
Flood warnings were posted for a time for several counties to the west of Gainesville, including Bartow, Floyd, and Pickens.
The weather service says .70 inch of rain was recorded at the Gainesville airport Sunday.
