ATLANTA - Baldwin, Blue Ridge, and Buford will share in $47 million in affordable housing funding announced for Georgia Tuesday by the state Department of Community Affairs (DCA).

Assistant Commissioner Phil Soil says Heritage Gardens in Baldwin is getting $445,000; Mineral Springs Apartments in Blue Ridge, $200,000; and, Huntington Court Senior Residences in Buford, $750,000.

DCA Commissioner Mike Beatty said the funds are to be used to increase the supply of housing for low and moderate income persons throughout the state.

"I was pleased to see the quality of the applications that came in this year," said Beatty. "Sixty-one different projects from both rural and urban areas of the state applied."

Particularly noticeable, Beatty said, was the diverse geographical locations of the recipients. "The recipients are literally from all over the state and 32% of the funding will go to rural areas," said Beatty.

The financing will fund 2,861 units within 33 projects. Of those, 14 will be located in rural areas and 19 will be located in urban areas. Nine of the projects will be reserved for senior citizens, while the remaining 24 will serve the housing needs of families.

The money comes from three sources: the Internal Revenue Service's Low Income Housing Tax Credit program, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's HOME Investment Partnership program, and the State of Georgia 's Low Income Housing Tax Credit program.
