Gainesville City Council campaigns kicking off

GAINESVILLE - Labor Day is the traditional kickoff of election campaigns in this country - and the two announced candidates for the Gainesville City Council seat being vacated by Sissy Lawson are wasting no time taking their message to would-be voters.

Ruth Bruner has begun running some ads and John Geyer is planning a campaign kick-off later this week which he is announcing in a mailing to potential voters.

Qualifying will be held next week for the November election.

Lawson announced a few weeks ago her plans not to seek re-election after 18 years on the council - and two terms as mayor.
