CLARKESVILLE - Habersham County is a step closer to having a state patrol post .

The county commission has voted unanimously for its staff to start work on a bid package for the construction of the facility. Plans call for moving the Toccoa post to Habersham.

As we reported in June, the post will be located at U.S. 441 and Georgia 365. Post commander Sgt. The county commission paid $420,000 for the land.

Post command Sgt. Stan Eller said at the time, strategically, the location is good for the GSP strategically.

"It's right there at the Tom Arrendale interchange with a four-lane highway running in the directions that we serve, which are Rabun, Habersham, Stephens, Franklin and Hart counties," Eller said.

Eller said the Toccoa area would not loose any coverage with the relocation of the post.

PARKS & RECREATION DIRECTOR

The Habersham parks and recreation director has resigned. In a statement read to the county commission, Jim Gallagher gave no specific reason for stepping down.
