Rape Response hosting seminar for lawmen

GAINESVILLE - Rape Response, Inc., Northeast Georgia's Rape Crisis Center, is hosting a seminar on "Law Enforcement's Response to Rape" on Friday at Gainesville College.

The keynote speaker will be FBI Supervisory Special Agent Armin A. Showalter. He will speak on "Practical aspects of Rape Investigations" to Georgia Law Enforcement Agents from 8:30-noon.

Showalter has been an agent for 13 years and is currently assigned to the FBI's National Center for the Analysis of Violent Crime in Quantico, Virginia. The NCAVC's primary function is to offer assistance to law enforcement agencies confronted with unusual, bizarre, and repetitive violent crime. Within the NCAVC, SSA Showalter is assigned to a unit that conducts research, provides training, and consults with law enforcement agencies regarding crimes against adults and serial killings. SSA Showalter holds and M.S. in forensic science, and he was previously assigned to a violent crimes squad in Washington.

Rick Allen, Deputy Director of Georgia Drugs and Narcotics, will hold an afternoon session of the Seminar on "Designer Drugs in Drug Assisted Rapes". In addition, local law enforcement professionals will demonstrate "Proper technique of interviewing rape victims."

The seminar is sponsored by Rape Response,Inc., The Georgia Department of Human Resources and Gainesville College.

It is NOT open to the public.
