GAINESVILLE - The Northeast Georgia Red Cross Chapter American Red Cross says it has received more than $82,000 for the Hurricane Relief Fund that was set up following the Florida hurricanes this summer.

The Gainesville-based agency singled out Mar-Jac for a $10,000 donation, noting that the Gainesville poultry giant had several clinets that were directly affected by damage from the storms.

The chapter reports that it has deployed more than 30 volunteers and two staff members to hurricane-ravaged parts of Florida, with several people serving two tours of duty.

In addition, volunteers were also activated in Gilmer and Rabun conties here in Georgia because of flooding associated with Hurricane Ivan.
