FLOWERY BRANCH - The political newcomer beat the City Hall veteran Tuesday night in Flowery Branch in the race for the Post 5 seat on the City Council.

Allen Bryans, Sr. was running to reclaim his council seat but Jim Worl, who has never held office, won the special election to fill the seat vacated by Ron Petrie's resignation.

"It seemed like a good opportunity at this point in my life to get involved with something like this," Worl said.

Worl won by an almost an almost two-to-one margin with 109 votes to Bryans 54.

Only 19 percent of Flowery Branch's registered voters showed up for election day Tuesday, Mayor Elect Bryan Puckette did not seem to mind.

He was unopposed and still got 109 votes.

"It feels great to have a lot of support, a lot of people came out and asked me to run," Puckette said. "It's a good opportunity to work on things for the city."

Puckette, a former mayor and city council member, said he could work with the new city council and help with the zoning ordinance.

Turnout for the Flowery Branch city election was light to moderate with 152 voters casting ballots including 13 absentee votes out of an active registered voters list of 798.
