UNDATED - People in parts of northeast Georgia woke up to snow Wednesday morning.

A light accumulation occurred overnight in a number of counties, including Dawson, Gilmer, Lumpkin and Pickens.

Forecasters say accumulations of up to an inch are possible at higher elevations before the snow ends later Wednesday morning. It coated mailboxes, cars and trucks and other exposed objects, but did not cause any travel problems.

As a precaution, however, and as usual in such circumstances, the Richard Russell Scenic Highway and the road that leads to the top of Brasstown Bald were closed.

There was a brief, but heavy flurry of snow here in Gainesville around 3:00 Tuesday morning but no reports of any accumulation.

A late-season Canadian air mass that brought snow to Kentucky and Tennessee - with significant accumulations in some places - also is responsible for the snow in north Georgia.
