UNDATED - Billed as "one of the most controversial and provocative films of the year, Michael Moore's "Fahrenheit 9/11," reportedly shunned by many theatres across the country, opened Friday at theatres in Gainesville and Buford.

Hollywood Stadium 15 in Gainesville and Regal Mall of Georgia 20 in Buford are among 17 theatres in the state where the movie is being shown.

The award-winning movie is being marketed as "a searing examination of the Bush administration's actions in the wake of the tragic events of 9/11."

It was recently named Best Picture of the Year at the Cannes Film Festival.
