KENNESAW - The Deputy Director of Recreation Services for Gainesville Parks and Recreation is the 2003 winner of the Roy Hammond award.

Each year the Georgia Games presents the award to one Georgia Recreation and Park Association (GRPA) professional who through his/her work and volunteerism demonstrates those qualities of Roy Hammond. With over 40 years of recreational service from Dublin to Dahlonega, Roy Hammond was a program builder and the "ultimate professional."

Morrison, who currently serves as the Deputy Director of Recreation Services for Gainesville Parks and Recreation, exhibits these extraordinary qualities, according to Abit Massey, Chairman of the Georgia State Games, Abit Massey, also of Gainesville. He has worked with Gainesville Parks and Recreation in various capacities since he began there as an intern in 1974 after completing his studies in Public Recreation at the University of Georgia.

Morrison has "contributed greatly" to the growth and success of the Georgia Games and his leadership for the Northeast Georgia District has "inspired and encouraged others...and we are grateful for his effective service for the Gainesville Parks and Recreation Department and the Georgia Games", Massey added.

The award notes that since the inception of the Georgia State Games Commission in 1990, Morrison has been an integral part of the Georgia Games District Sports Festivals. As a representative of District 7, the Northeast District, he has hosted Georgia Games events on an annual basis and has served as the District Director for District 7 for the last seven years. In this position, Jeff has recruited, organized and promoted hundreds of amateur athletic events. He recently represented the District Sports Festivals in a television segment which aired on the cable
access channel, People TV.
