United Way of Hall County President and Chief Professional Officer Anna Gines said 100 percent of all contributions to the response fund will go to help the people in the communities most severely impacted by the hurricane, "with no administrative costs being taken by United Way on a national, state or local level and no dollars being used for other disasters, current or future."
All funds will be allocated for both front-line disaster relief and long- term recovery needs as determined by affected United Ways in coordination with their human service partners.
Gines says local relief agencies spent "12-18 months" helping victims of the 1998 tornado which caused millions of dollars in damage in the Gainesville area and killed more than a dozen people.
Gines said anyone who wishes to make a contribution to the Hurricane Charley Response Fund mail to P.O. Box 2656 Gainesville, Georgia 30503. Online contributions can be made at www.unitedway.org/hurricaneresponse.
