GAINESVILLE - Type 2 diabetics in Gainesville and Georgia, as a whole, need to do a better job of controlling their condition.

That's the conclusion of a new study being released this month by a group of doctors. The study found that 70 percent of Type 2 diabetics in Gainesville and 65 percent in Atlanta are not controlling their blood sugar as they should.

Dr. Scott Isaacs, clinical instructor of medicine at Emory University School of Medicine, appearing on Sunday's Northeast Georgia This Week, says, simply put, the state of diabetes in Georgia is in "bad shape."

Dr. Isaacs stresses that people need to take their desease seriously, "Each person needs to take their diabetes into their own hands and be personally responsible for getting the sugar under control."
