Legacy Link volunteers honored

GAINESVILLE - Four people were singled out for special awards by Legacy Link Thursday at the annual appreciation luncheon in Gainesville.<br> <br> The Lifetime Volunteer of the year is Lovena Smith (Lumpkin County) with over 1,250 hours within a 12-month period. <br> <br> Three Lifetime Awards went to Shirley Evans (Habersham County) with over 5,000 hours; Thomas Kervin (Forsyth County) with over 7,000 hours; and, Norma Dunn (Forsyth County) with over 8,000 hours.<br> <br> The luncheon honored senior volunteers who have contributed 24,430 service hours in a 13-county region.<br> <br> Legacy Link&#39;s services include home delivered meals to home-bound seniors, child mentor programs, homeland security and disaster aid, community outreach, pen pal outreach with ESOL (English As A Second Language) students, court appointed advocates, and efforts to help seniors understand changes in Medicare and insurance programs.<br>
