Gainesville schools add two sites for free summer meal program

GAINESVILLE - Gainesville City Schools are again operating a Summer Food Service Program this year, but two new locations have been added.

The program began Wednesday and will continue through July 15 at four sites around town.

It's a federally funded program designed to reach children who benefit from receiving free or reduced meals during the school year.

Laurie Cartrett, Gainesville School Nutrition Director, says a meal and/or a snack will be offered at the CAE Church on Second Street, Fair Street and Gainesville elementary schools, and the Boys and Girls Club. The church and Gainesville elementary are the new sites this year.

At Fair Street, breakfast and lunch will be served through June 30; at CAE Church, lunch and a snack will be available through July 15; a snack will be served at the Boys and Girls Club through July 14; and, breakfast and lunch will be available at Gainesville Elementary School through July 15.
