GAINESVILLE - The staff recommendation was denied but Hall County Planning commissioners Monday night approved SprintCom's application to install a 195-foot cell tower on Gillsville Highway.

Planning Staff recommended denial because SprintCom asked for so many variances.

Planning Commission Chairman Patrick Barry said commissioners felt this cell tower would not cause a visibility problem.

"We looked at the variances and it was going to be far enough to not cause any problems; line of sight is not going to be an issue I don't believe," Barry said.

SprintCom representative Ken McMaster told commissioners his company planned to make the tower as invisible as possible while at the same time delivering better cell phone coverage to the Gillsville area.

SUBDIVISION REQUESTS, OTHER BUSINESS

Planning Commissioners followed a staff recommendation to deny developer Harry Breedlove's request to add 20 one-acre lots to an already approved 57-lot subdivision on Old Cornelia Highway.

Commissioner Chris Braswell said he could not accept the expansion.

Planning Staff reported that the changed zoning condition was inconsistent with the current Comprehensive Land Development Plan.

Commissioners approved Buzz Curtain's rezoning request for a 26-lot subdivision on Roy Parks Road near Athens Highway.

Stardust House Boats won approval for its Planned Commercial Development rezoning to allow a houseboat dealership and storage facility.

Robert Holcomb's rezoning request to build an office warehouse on Fulllenwider Road near Candler Road was also approved.
