GAINESVILLE - Gainesville City Councilman George Wangamann said Thursday he favors Lanier Tech's proposal for a manufacturing incubator to jump start local industry - he just wants an equitable funding support from local government.

Lanier Tech President Dr. Mike Moye wants a $50,000 a year contribution each from Gainesville and Hall County for the next three years to support the project to generate home grown, locally developed industry.

Wangemann said city taxpayers are county taxpayers, too, so let the support come from Hall County.

"Since we (are) already paying county taxes...that would make it fair for every citizen."

The industry incubator - located in the old Warren Featherbone building - officially starts February 3 with a visit from Gov. Sonny Perdue.

ONE SYSTEM FOR ALL

Gainesville Public Works Director Kelly Randall said that water customers in unincorporated Hall County will continue to pay a higher water rate under a city/county agreement allowing the city to run and maintain the system countywide.

Council reviewed the agreement and Randall said he plans to present it to county commissioners next Monday.

"The water system in the city is largely depreciated, most of the facilities out in the county are still being paid for, we still have a loan on those," Randall said.

Randall added the city already operates two thirds of the county system and the agreement eliminates duplication of services.
