GAINESVILLE - Northeast Georgia Medical Center has begun restricting hospital visits by any 15 year-olds and younger to help reduce the spread of the flu.

The restriction applies to all inpatient units at both the main campus and the Lanier Park campus.

Hospital officials said Tuesday the restricted visitation is effective immediately and will be in effect until the infection risk subsides.

"We regret any inconvenience this may cause patients, families and visitors, but hope they understand that we must protect the safety of our patients," spokeswoman Cathy Bowers said.

The medical center will allow siblings of newborns to visit in their mother's room ONLY on the Labor and Delivery and Mother/Baby units.
