When the city and county school boards meet again, possibly early next month, Hall Board members plan to present a united front on tax sharing according to Chairman Richard Higgins.
"This board feels like it has a consensus on the agreement we have and we're waiting on Gainesville to see how they come out on their decision," Higgins said.
The proposed agreement sends students and their state and federal support dollars to city schools in already annexed areas. In newly annexed areas, students will stay in Hall County schools.
Gainesville School Board member David Syfan said he wanted more detail on the plan's funding equity.
SCHOOL BUS SAVINGS
Board members unanimously approved a plan to save money on new school buses through 2008.
School Superintendent Dr. Dennis Fordham said bus prices go up in 2008 when new emissions regulations take effect.
"We asked the bidders to guarantee the same price on the same year model buses for another year and another purchase," Fordham said.
Atlanta Freight Lines was the low bidder on three 48-passenger Special Ed buses and twelve 90-passenger transit buses.
Blue Bird sent in the low bid for four 24-passenger special purpose van type buses.
