Dorothy Rucker dies

GAINESVILLE - A prominent member of Gainesville's African-American community has died.

Dorothy Rucker died Wednesday at the Peachtree Christian Hospice following an extended illness.

Rucker, who was 88, was honored in 2000 with the Woman of Distinction Award from the Girl Scouts of Northeast Georgia "because of her contributions to her community, her leadership, positive affiliations, being a role model to girls and women."

Funeral services will be announced later by Memorial Park Funeral Home.
