GAINESVILLE - A construction worker at the medical center in Gainesville escaped serious injury Tuesday morning when he fell about 15 feet onto some concrete and into a small ditch.

Battallion Chief Clint Miller of the Gainesville Fire Department says the workman suffered a broken leg. The accident happened about 8:30. Chief Miller said he fell from some scaffolding while working on a retaining wall at a parking deck.

He says EMTs and others had to work around a lot of construction equipment, piles of dirt and concrete to complete the operation, but "it went smoothly."
