BUFORD - Hall County fire fighters Wednesday afternoon rescued a female driver who was trapped in her vehicle following a grinding crash on McEver Road involving two dump trucks and her small pickup.

Officials say the female motorist, identified as 50-year-old Valerie Jalbert of Buford, was taken to Gwinnett Medical Center, but first fire fighters had to remove Jalbert from her pickup which was wedged under a fully-loaded dump-style tractor trailer.

Battalion Chief Al Lovingood said, "Once we were able to gain access to her, we made sure the support harness over our heads was secure, that was our first priority."
Heavy duty wreckers rushed to the scene and lifted the trailer enough so fire fighters could remove the trapped motorist.

Ms. Jalbert is reported to be in stable condition with injuries described as "not life-threatening."

According to a spokesman for the Georgia State Patrol, a dump truck driven by 26-year-old Steven Dewayne Barnett of Gainesville ran the red light, rear-ended the pickup and smashed it under the tractor trailer.

Barnett was treated and released at the medical center and then arrested on an outstanding warrant from Clarke County. Troopers say charges against him from the wreck are pending.

Truck driver Bobby Ray Tharpe from Grayson said the victim's small Ford Ranger was shoved under his tractor trailer dump truck loaded with 24 tons of material.

"The red truck hit the little Ranger and pushed it up under my trailer," Tharpe said.
"He could not stop at the red light."

The investigation into the accident is continuing.
