GAINESVILLE - A 72-year-old Alto woman, who has suffered three heart attacks and has been in cardiac care for 15 years, plans to be among those in this year's Hall County Heart Walk.

At the kickoff luncheon Wednesday, Ruth Whitfield said she plans to walk the 5K route September 30 at Brenau University.

"I enjoy walking in the heart walk," said Whitfield, who also rides a motorcycle, hunts, gardens, and still does her own yard work. "It really does help people because they can take this money that we raise and do research and help the people that need it."

"The goal for the 2006 Hall County Heart Walk is to raise $100,000," Kasey Dillard, Southeast Affiliate Regional Director for the American Heart Association said. "We already have over 20 teams signed up for the 2006 Heart Walk and are looking for more companies and individuals to participate."

"We will have a moonwalk for kids, activities for kids provided by INK, blood pressure screenings provided by Lanier Technical College, mini-massages provided by Lake Lanier School of Massage, and more activities for the community and participants."

To sign up to participate and for more information on the Hall County Heart Walk, see the website: www.hallcountyheartwalk.kintera.org or contact the American Heart Association office at (770) 534-3442.
