DNR: Almost 20 boating accidents on Lanier this year

GAINESVILLE - With hot, dry weather forecast, rangers and others are gearing up for mammoth holiday crowds on Lake Lanier Tuesday - and to emphasize safety, the state has released some year-to-date statistics about water safety.

Department of Natural Resources officials say there had been nearly twenty boating accidents, through June 26th, on Lanier. Those accidents resulted in twelve injuries.

Five of those incidents involved Jet Ski-type craft. In addition, there had been two drownings through June 26th.

And, there had been seventeen boating-under-the-influence charges filed.
