SUWANEE - A former deputy with the Hall County Sheriff's Office has been named a commander in the Suwanee Police Department.

Lt. Cass Mooney, who has been with the department nine years, was promoted to lieutenant and commander of the Suwanee Police Department's Field Operations Bureau. He will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the department's patrol division.

Formerly a sergeant with the department in charge of Suwanee's selective enforcement (traffic) unit, Mooney joined the department in 1997. Before that, he worked for almost three years with the Hall County Sheriff's Office.

Mooney has an associate degree from Gainesville College and a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from North Georgia College and State University. He currently is working on a master's degree in public administration from Columbus State University.
